NHS Track & Trace for Businesses – Update on the App
An update on the NHS Track and Trace App, and what businesses need to take note of.
As we mentioned a few days ago in our update on the Track & Trace requirements for businesses, a few of our clients have pointed out some issues with the system being imposed by the Government.
As it currently stands (22nd September 2020) the NHS App is still not 100% operational. It is still in development and only being used in the trail stage by invitation only. It is supposed to be live in time for the 24th September requirement to display a registered QR Poster.
Your visitors, clients, customers, and anyone else needing to complete Track & Trace will need to have the NHS COVID-19 Track & Trace App installed on their phone to use the QR Code. This can be downloaded from the Apple App Store or the Google Play store.
- Apple users can pre-download the app here: https://apps.apple.com/us/app/id1520427663
- Google users can pre-download the app here: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=uk.nhs.covid19.production
There is no support (currently) for phones running any other software – so that’s Windows Phone and Blackberry users so far.
The requirement for businesses to display this QR code is still the 24th September. If you need to see how you can register and stay on the right side of the law, please see our blog on the process here: https://www.5starfoodsafety.co.uk/track-trace-updates/
REMEMBER: Most businesses are highly-likely to be required to maintain records of visitors, and whilst the QR Code is designed to aid that, it cannot be a replacement. Not just because the app isn’t working yet, but because not everyone will have their phones (or the right type of phone) or want to install the app. Therefore, here at Five Star Food Safety, we recommend you maintain your own Track & Trace Records along side this Government initiative.
The fines for non-compliance are £4000!
