SALSA

What is SALSA?

SALSA is a Food Safety Accreditation Scheme that is intended for smaller food producers and processors. The scheme ensures that the site has a robust and effective system of demonstrating Food Safety to customers, allowing approved suppliers to demonstrate that they operate to standards that are recognised and accepted across the industry and exceed the minimum standards expected by enforcement authorities.

How can SALSA benefit my business?

SALSA is the minimum Food Safety Requirement for many retailers, opening the door to placing local produce on to the shelves of larger supermarkets. Listing a product in the major retailers is often the first step into any food business turning their business from a small local producer to a major player in the food industry.

Obtaining and maintaining SALSA approval sends a firm message to potential customers, and to local enforcement authorities (LEA), that your business takes Food Safety seriously. As well as having the potential to improve sales through retailers, SALSA Accreditation assists in dealing with LEA inspections, and improves product quality through improved standards.

SALSA also acts as a stepping-stone towards a GFSI (Global Food Safety Initiative) Accreditation such as the BRCGS or FSSC 22000.
