BRCGS

What is the BRCGS?

The BRCGS (British Retailer Consortium Global Standards) is the new name for the BRC. Since 1996 the BRCGS has been setting the standards in safety and compliance in several sectors for the Food Industry. Through the years new standards have been introduced, and existing standards updated. Achieving the relevant BRCGS Accreditation can be a challenge for existing members and new, and Five Start Food Safety is especially qualified to assist you to achieving and maintaining your accreditation.

We work closely with several Certificating Bodies to ensure that our knowledge and understanding of the current standards are both up-to-date and aligned with the people the matter the most – the auditors. We also attend continuous BRC Accredited Training Sessions for each version change, ensuring that our knowledge comes direct from those writing the standards.

How will the BRCGS benefit my business?

The BRCGS is instantly recognisable throughout the world. Having a BRC Global Standards Certificate opens almost every door within the Food Chain in both the UK and Internationally. With a range of “bolt-on” modules, the BRC Global Standards cover everything that a food manufacturer needs to prove their commitment to Good Manufacturing Practices and Standards.

CUSTOMER CONFIDENCE

  • Protects your brand and the consumer.
  • Ensures your customers maintain confidence in your food safety programme and supply chain management.
  • Accepted and specified by many retailers, manufacturers, ingredients companies, food service organisations and raw material processors worldwide as part of their supplier approval process.
  • Use certification as a marketing tool by displaying the BRCGS logo on your publicity materials, stationery and website.

  • Designed to reflect best practice and provide a common sense, risk-based approach to product safety and certification.
  • Offers audit options including announced or unannounced audits.
  • There is a straightforward certification process which means there are no hidden costs. If your business is prepared and confident about accreditation, the only cost will be that of the audit, which is charged at a local rate.
  • Reduce waste, complaints, recalls and rejected products.
  • Global recognition of the Standard by customers and the portable nature of the product with additional modules reduce audit burden.

The Standards

Each of the standards is complex. Whilst the intention is for each of the standards to be recognised throughout the industry, there are still areas of misalignment from one standard to the next. For this purpose, we have separated the standards out into their own pages. Choose your standard below to learn more. Alternatively, if you are unsure which standard you need to have – please contact us and we will help you to understand the various options.
